These terms govern your use of the Pharos app and service. By creating an account or using Pharos, you agree to them. Please read the safety notice below carefully. It is the most important part.
What Pharos does
When you trigger an alert, Pharos attempts to notify the emergency contacts you have chosen and to share your location with them. Check-ins are optional reminders that notify your contacts if you miss them. That is the whole of the service: Pharos does not call emergency services for you and does not guarantee anyone will respond.
Your responsibilities
- Keep your phone charged, connected, and set up as the app guides you (permissions, battery set to "Unrestricted", notifications enabled). An alert cannot be sent from a phone that is off, out of battery, or offline.
- Add at least one contact who has agreed to be your emergency contact, and make sure their details are correct and current.
- Send a test alert and confirm your contacts receive it before relying on Pharos.
- Only add someone as a contact if you have their permission to share your alerts and location with them.
Your account
Provide accurate information, keep your password secure, and don't share your account. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 16 to create an account yourself; a parent or guardian may set up and manage Pharos for someone younger or in their care.
Acceptable use
Don't use Pharos to send false or malicious alerts, to harass anyone, to break the law, or to attack, overload, or reverse-engineer the service. Don't add people as contacts without their consent.
No warranty
Pharos is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that alerts will be delivered, delivered on time, or acted upon, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pharos and its creators are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any harm resulting from an alert that was delayed, undelivered, or not responded to, or from any failure of your device, network, or a contact's device. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Because Pharos may be provided free of charge or self-hosted, you accept that you use it at your own risk as one layer of safety, not a guaranteed one.
Self-hosting and open components
Pharos can be self-hosted. If you run your own relay, you are responsible for operating and securing it, and these terms cover only your use of the app.
Ending your use
You can stop using Pharos and delete your account and data at any time from Settings → Danger zone → Delete my account. We may suspend or end access for anyone who violates these terms or misuses the service.
Changes
We may update these terms as Pharos evolves; we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Pharos after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Romania and the European Union, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
